Current Student Dance Majors
Katherine Boltz '10 is a dance major. She also has a great love for Irish dance. Katherine teaches Irish dance to kids in our after school program. This past spring term she studied in Ireland and has many new ideas to share with us. Mallory Duff '10 is a dance major. Mallory has incredible sense of time in her dances and her work is always surprising. Mallory spent the summer in Tuscany in beautiful Italy. She performed in Rosignano and Porto San Stefano. She took some classes with David Dorfman. Mallory teaches Jazz and Hip-Hop in the after school dance program. Jasmine Jones '10 is a dance major. Jasmine likes jazz dance. She also is interested in a NK-12 dance certification and Sweet Briar's MAT. Courtney Hurt '10 is a dance and anthropology double major. Courtney is an explosive performer who wows the audience with her dare devil feats. She loves Cirque Du Soleil. One summer Courtney studied circus arts in Australia. She teaches circus arts in the after school program. Aili McGill '10 is a dance and psychology double major. Aili wants to be a dance therapist. She is a quirky choreographer that keeps everyone guessing. Aili also went to Italy to study with Prodanza and performed in Rosignano and Porta San Stefano. Taylor Newman '10 is a dance major. Taylor has beautiful balletic form in her dancing. However, she is expanding this grace into off balance work and impossible shapes. Taylor did two summer programs this past summer. She studied with Paul Taylor in New York City and went to Jamaica for the daCi conference. She teaches the youngest children creative dance and ballet in our after school program. Mary Beth Thomasson '10 is a dance major. Her dances are fascinating to watch because she has a hidden inner power that is rippling underneath the surface. Beth is very interested in opening her own studio. She enjoys Yoga and wants to become certified. Sara Buttine '11 is a dance and fashion merchandising and marketing double major with a business minor and an arts management certificate. Sara has a wry sense of humor, which she uses in her choreography. Her solo Backward Trash can be seen in our gallery. Sara took dance classes in New York this summer while she was attending the Fashion Institute of Technology. Meagan Oliphant '11 is a dance major and working toward her NK-12 dance certification and a MAT. Meagan has great classical form and delights in powerful whole body movement. Meagan went to Jamaica for the daCi conference this summer. Meagan teaches ballet, modern dance and choreography in the after school program. Ashley Adams '11 is a dance major. Ashley is interested in dance education and hopes to receive her NK-12 dance certification and her MAT. Ashley had two different dance teaching internships this summer in Danville, Virginia. Betsy Saccenti '11 is a dance and psychology double major. Betsy comes to us from the University of Hawaii. She is a very organic mover and we welcome her to our school. Anna Marie Carr '12 is a dance and modern language double major. Anna Marie's choreography is always very engaging and well thought out. She is a very strong and focused dancer. In the first year class and the sophomore class there are also students interested in dance as a major. Normally students do not declare their major until the end of the sophomore year. |
